If your interested in sport, and missed out on booking tickets to the Olympics in London (where it'll probably rain anyway) fear not there is still time to be  presenter at the International Sports Engineering Conference in Lowell (just outside Boston). The Engineering of Sport 9 is shaping up to be an excellent conference with great technical presentations from authors all around the world.  We will also be bringing you great keynotes, networking opportunities with colleagues and exhibitors, recreational activities, and more.


Thank you for taking the time to read the important updates about the conference that are included in this monthly newsletter.


The February newsletter includes announcements and updates on Conference Registration, Hotel Reservations, Conference Sponsorship and Exhibition Opportunities, Poster Submission Deadline, Paper Submissions, and an ISEA Journal Editor Position.

Early registration rates are available until April 1, 2012.  (Authors of Papers and Posters must Register by March 2, 2012 in order to ensure that their paper/abstract will be part of the proceedings.)




The Engineering of Sport 9 is being held at the UMass Lowell Inn and Conference Center.  Hotel Reservations for rooms before, during and after the conference can be made through the following links at the UMass Lowell Inn and Conference Center.  We have arranged for special conference rates.  There is also a special discounted rate for students.  Students reserving rooms through the student rate will be required to show a valid student ID upon check-in.

The Engineering of Sport 9 conference is held every two years and attracts the world’s leading industrial and academic research and development engineers. This conference will also draw media with an eye on the London 2012 Olympic Games just two weeks later. The ISEA is the pre-eminent professional organization for the fast growing discipline of Sports Engineering research and industrial development in the world. Participation in the conference is expected to exceed 300, and your involvement through sponsorship and participation will make the conference a great success.

We will have multiple poster sessions that coincide with afternoon refreshments.  It is not too late to present your research during one of these poster sessions.  We will include the abstracts for the posters in the hard-bound conference proceedings for the abstracts have been submitted, accepted, and finalized by March 1, 2012.  Poster abstracts accepted after that date will not appear in the hard-bound proceedings, but will be distributed separate from the proceedings at the conference. 


To submit your poster abstract, please follow the submission guidelines on the conference website.  The same process applies to abstracts for posters as was used for full papers, just select “poster” instead of “paper” when entering your abstract.  The abstracts must be a maximum length of 250 words.

All papers will be finalized for the conference in the next few days.  If you are an author and have not submitted your final revised version, please submit it by February 25, 2012 so that we can meet the publishing deadlines.

The ISEA is seeking to appoint an Assistant Editor for its journal Sports Engineering and applications are invited for this post. The Assistant Editor will work closely with the Editor in Chief, Dr Martin Strangwood, providing support for the processing of submitted papers and seeking especially to enhance the paper submission rate for the Journal. The Assistant Editor may also from time to time take full responsibility for special initiatives such as special issues, review papers etc. ---
